Were you summer lovin’, havin’ a blast? If the thought of hitting pause on that summer party as you make your way back to those lecture halls is too much, you’ll need a break. There are many great pubs to enjoy that pause from studies in, and many of those are found in the city centre.
So if you’re looking for a place to spend the evening, the Three Sisters is the solution. Step through those gates and you’ve entered the party that never ends. We’ve got a drinks licence from 9am until 1am, so you can always start early. Whether you party with drag queens, sports fans, dancing along the tunes coming from the DJ booth or by giving the performance of your life on the karaoke stage; there’s something for everyone. Or if you’re more of the Netflix and chill kind, our free Monday night cinema screenings will keep your evenings busy. Even if you’re more of an intellectual, who drinks wine and knows things, we have a weekly pub quiz. So assemble your team, enjoy some free mac n’ cheese and you could win some amazing prizes!
But if you’re just looking for a quiet one after a long day in the library, head upstairs to the union and enjoy a few of the cheapest pints in Edinburgh, exclusively for you students out there. Then venture downstairs to some live music… And then join the party.
We’ll say it so you don’t have to. A night in the Old Town’s Cowgate beats George Street any night. Not only is the Cowgate kinder to your bank account, but there’s just less fuss. Sure, your cocktails may be less fancy, and there’s more of an excuse to dress up for the city centre lights but you can’t beat a night on the Cowgate. For the best DJ set in Edinburgh, you need to head to Cabaret Voltaire. Hector’s Tuesdays is the club unmissable night for House Music fans. Leave the heels at home, your trainers are accepted, the atmosphere is far more relaxed, and the music is far better, to which you can dance like no one is watching.
Now for the inevitable, the hangover. Well Biddy’s has the cure, and it’s found in their breakfasts. Served from 8am to noon, you can eat last night’s drinks away. (Rumour has it that the same cure can be found in their Sunday roasts if you missed breakfast!). On those rare sunny days, you can now enjoy a bit of al fresco dining or drinking and indoors the lighting is perfect for those light sensitive mornings. At the weekends, you can enjoy some live acoustic music, catch live coverage of the game, or even challenge a friend to a game of scrabble. And with that student discount, Biddy’s just became even more appealing!
For those truly easy like Sunday morning vibes, venture out of the Cowgate and head to the Golf Tavern in Bruntsfield. They, like all of our venues, are dog friendly. So don’t let them miss out on a day out, bring your four legged friends! For all the golf fanatics out there, the Golf Tavern have a great £5 for thirty-six holes deal and students can also enjoy a 30% discount off their main meals! They too have quiz nights on Wednesday, and whether you’re winning or losing, you can enjoy the live music!
If it’s home comforts you’re missing, and not just your mum’s washing machine, invite them over to see you! If you don’t have the space, or cringe at the idea of your parents seeing your student flat, Central Hotels have you covered. Located in the city centre, Central Hotels has the quality, the views and the amazing staff that everyone is searching for in a hotel. So book your parents into any one of Central’s five, and they too can discover the magic of the Cowgate…
